Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, (Piazza S. Sofia) - Benevento (BN)
The Church of Santa Sofia, completed in 762 AD, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, is one of the most complex and best preserved examples of Lombard architecture in central and southern Italy. The church has a unique plan with pillars and vaults that create a play of perspectives and very suggestive illusionistic effects of shadows and lights. Today the cloister houses the Museum of Sannio.
