80138 Piazza Crocelle Mannesi - Napoli (NA)
The ancient church of the Crociferi friars of S. Maria Porta Coeli, also known as the Crocelle ai Mannesi, was demolished during the extension works of via Duomo, and in its place was erected, in 1882, a neo-Gothic style building still visible and whose entrance faces the entrance of the church of S. Giorgio Maggiore. The building was realised by the engineer Filippo Botta that designed this plant with a single nave raised compared to street level, in order to obtain commercial premises below the level of the church and opened up on the new via Duomo. The new temple was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to the Virgin Mary and to S. Camillo de Lellis, founder of the Crociferi friars. Restored nowadays, it is waiting to be the seat of cultural activities.
