P.tta del Nilo 80134 - Napoli (NA)
The monumental figure of the Nilo god was realised during the 2nd-3rd century AD for want of Egyptian merchants that lived in this area. After the achievement of Christian religion, the representation of this river god was forgotten and then found again only in the 12th century. When the sculpture was brought to light again was headless and, since it shows a breastfeeding body, it was interpreted as a female figure representing the body of the city feeding its children, so it got the name of Corpo di Napoli, with which the little square stands out even now. During the 17th century Bartolomeo Mori added a male bearded head to this sculpture, and in the 18th century Angelo Viva realized the little sphinx.
