Church of S. Maria Donnaregina Nuova

Between 1617 and 1649 the nuns of the neighbouring Convent of Santa Maria Donnaregina ordered to build the new Church of Donnaregina , larger than the previous one and in Baroque style. The new building was erected on a design by Giovan Giacomo Conforto, the marble portal, by Bernardino Latini, was annexed in 1647, while the dome was built in 1654 and painted by Agostino Beltrano. The decoration works went on up to the 18th century: in1684 Francesco Solimena painted the nuns' choir and in 1686-1687 Luca Giordano painted the vault of this choir. The interior has a single nave, laterally there are three chapels on each side. Starting from the entrance, they are dedicated to the Immaculate, the Virgin Mary of the Rosary and the Virgin of Carmine on the left, to St. Anthony, the Annunziata and St. Francis on the right. The two churches, originally connected to one another, were separated in 1928-1934 with the works by Gino Chierici.
Since 2009 the church is the location for the Museo Diocesano.
